Nevin AladağDE
Nevin Aladağ (lives and works in Berlin) is a Professor of Interdisciplinary Artistic Work at the University of Fine Arts in Dresden. In her multidisciplinary works, which include sculpture, video, performance, and sound, Aladağ explores the relationship between cultures, traditions, and geographies, delving into themes of identity, community, and the interaction between sound and space.
She has participated in documenta 14 in Kassel and Athens, the 57th Venice Biennale, the 11th Sharjah Biennial, the 11th Istanbul Biennial, and the 8th Taipei Biennial. Her works are held in collections including the Centre Pompidou, Paris, and Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, Vienna. In October 2026 she will receive the Kurt Schwitters Kunstpreis with an exhibition at the Sprengel Museum Hannover.

Raise the Roof (Berlin)2007
Four female dancers move, each one for herself, to songs that cannot be heard by the viewer. With their stiletto heels, they appear to tear up the tar-covered rooftop; the electronically amplified sound of these charged dance steps creates a new, wild auditory experience, which in turn unites the otherwise isolated movements of the dancers.
The performance takes place on a former border section between West and East Berlin; this roof once served as a patrol route for GDR border soldiers and was heavily guarded. The work explores the connotations of control and the liberation from it, the affiliation to a group, and the isolation within such, expressed through a specifically female form of resistance.
